What We Do

How We Started

RecruitU2 was started by a father whose daughter, by her Junior year in high school, was an accomplished, State qualifying athlete in two sports and a good student. While she wasn’t one of the top 1-2% of the athletes in either of her sports and she wasn’t the Valedictorian of her class, she was a good athlete with good grades….. but she was only being lightly recruited by a few local colleges. Her father didn’t understand why, so he embarked on a fact-finding mission.

What We Learned

What he learned was that there were numerous companies that offered to “scout” his daughter, rate her athletic strengths and weaknesses and pass this information on to a number of “interested” college coaches – and only for $1,250 - $5,000. Also available to his daughter were web sites that allowed her to post a profile on their sites (for a monthly or annual fee) in the hope that college coaches would find the web site, find her at the web site and then recruit her. Finally, he had numerous people suggest that he wait for the college coaches to “discover” her…. It would happen, don’t worry. Her high school coach would promote her to college coaches and they would come soon.

But none of this seemed to make sense to him. All of these options seemed “passive”. Spending a lot of money to be scouted and have the information passed on to only a select group of “interested” coaches didn’t seem cost effective. Posting a profile on a site that couldn’t say how many college coaches were visiting the site with a need for an athlete like his daughter was similar to looking for a needle in a haystack. The father wanted a system that would give him and his daughter some control over the recruiting process.

What happened next was his participation in a seminar that seemed to, finally, explain the recruiting process. What he learned was that only the top 1-2% of the athletes coming from the top five to six states that produce athletes in each sport are truly recruited. The remaining 98% of athletes in each sport fall into a convoluted, haphazard recruiting process that is, at best, inefficient and unpredictable.

Division I schools, with their ever-increasing revenue from football and basketball, spend enormous amounts of money searching for and finding the elite athletes. Division II schools, with less revenue from their revenue sports, tend to limit their searches and recruiting efforts to regions rather than the entire country. Division III schools, which make up 40% of all colleges in the NCAA, have no athletic scholarships, generate significantly less revenue from their revenue sports and, thus, have almost no money available for their coaches to recruit.

What does this mean for the 98% of the high school athletes who want to continue their sport in college? It means that they aren’t known by the vast majority of college coaches in their sport and are, at best, only lightly recruited. They end up like our founder’s daughter….. a good athlete, with good grades but having only two or three college coaches trying to recruit them.

Choosing The Right Method

How do you change that? How do you get coaches to notice you? How do you get recruited by multiple coaches?

You market yourself to EVERY coach, at EVERY school that sponsors your sport and where you are likely to be accepted academically. You don’t spend thousands of dollars packaging yourself, editing video, creating snappy, snazzy portfolios. You simply put together a one page profile of the athlete and his/her abilities and send it to EVERY COACH.

That is what RecruitU2 does for you, and at a much more reasonable cost.

How To Be Successful

For any recruiting process to be effective, you need maximum exposure. Getting recruited is just like looking for a job – you don’t send your resume to only a few companies and some good friends and wait for them to find you a job. The same applies to getting recruited. Since every college has different academic requirements and every coach has different needs every year (e.g., how many kids are graduating, how many kids aren’t meeting his playing expectations, how many competing colleges are improving), you need to market yourself and your unique skill sets to EVERY coach at EVERY school. Just like using employment sites such as CareerBuilder and Monster, you need a mechanism that broadcasts your availability, interest and capabilities to as many potential “recruiters” as possible.

That’s what RecruitU2 is – your tool to introduce yourself to every coach in your sport, at every school where you academically qualify.

What We Do For U

RecruitU2 was designed to do three things:

  1. Save you time – You don’t have to research every NCAA college that sponsors your sport. We’ve done it for you. We know the Division, the State, the enrollment, average SAT, ACT and GPA of the students, the out of state tuition and room and board costs and whether or not it’s coed – AND – we have the direct email address and name of every coach at every school.
  2. Save you money – Our services are designed to be cost-effective and efficient. We charge you a one time fee that includes the production of your profile, a cover letter to each coach, email access to every coach for your sport in the U.S., a packet of information to help guide you through the recruiting process (step-by-step) and phone and email support from our staff until you choose a school to attend. We save you from spending thousands of dollars for “scouting” services, video production, information packets and “action photos”. None of that is truly necessary.
  3. Make it Easy – How to write a profile, what to include in your profile, how to format it, how to include video for the coaches who want to see your video, how to write the introductory letter and determining which schools you academically qualify for can be difficult to accomplish when you have little or no experience. Since most families only go through this process one or two times, it can take forever to find all the resources you need to accomplish what we have available for you at RecruitU2.

We make it easy with our automated system.

Once you decide to use our service, you’ll complete two questionnaires – one for general information and one specific to your sport. We then have you upload the best picture of you playing your sport. The information you input is converted and formatted directly into your profile along with your picture. If you’ve uploaded video to a video site, you will be able to include the hyperlink for your video in your profile for every coach to see.

Your cover letter is next and we give you examples to choose from or write it on your own. Either way, once you write it and save it, it can be used for every coach where you send your profile.

The recommended selection of colleges to send your profile to is based on your academics. We use your SAT, ACT or PSAT scores and/or your GPA to determine which schools you have the best chance to be admitted. While we show you the entire list of NCAA colleges that sponsor your sport, we highlight and select the colleges we believe you qualify for academically. This allows you to eliminate schools where you don’t want your profile sent and add schools that are probably “stretches” academically.

Our system also allows you to sort the list of schools by any of the listed criteria – State, Division, SAT, ACT, GPA, Tuition, Room and Board and Coed so you can further add or reduce the schools where you want your profile sent. Once you’ve finalized your list of schools, you’re ready to send everything out.

By simply selecting “Send My Profile”, your profile and cover letter will be sent, from your personal email address, directly to every coach you selected from the coach/college list.

All of your information (profile, cover letter and list of schools) is saved on the site and is also downloadable for your records.

Since you might not have all of the information needed during this process, we also make it easy for you to stop, save and come back to the process at any time and as many times as you need to return. And every student athlete is allowed to use the service to send updates and other information to every coach on their list.

Let RU2 Do it For You – $349

If you would prefer having RecruitU2 handle all of the creation of the profile, cover letter and college selection, we can do it for you. This service includes phone and email support as well as consultation to build your athletic profile and recruiting package.

Add Another Sport - $99

Many of you are dual athletes and aren’t sure which sport you are most interested in playing in college, so we give you the option of creating a second profile, cover letter and school target list to send your profile for one low additional price.
